Hartford, CT – State Senator Paul Formica (R-East Lyme) hosted Victor Bailey Jr., 2015 the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Connecticut Youth of the Year at the State Capitol this week.

17-year-old Victor Bailey Jr., was chosen among seven local outstanding youth for the honor. As the Youth of the Year, Bailey recognized for his outstanding contributions to his family, school, Boys & Girls Club, as well as his sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.

After obtaining a job with Our Piece of the Pie through the New London Youth Affairs, Victor’s radiant artistic abilities were put to use in designing and implementing positive murals that were painted on the outside building walls of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern CT’s Thames River Site.

Victor has a passion for speaking out against bullying and supporting those who need someone to talk to. He is currently working on creating a blog to link with other Boys & Girls Clubs around the state to establish a support group for those who are depressed and have suicidal tendencies. Victor wishes to make sure those who are suffering have an outlet and resources to express themselves and to also seek help if need be.

Youth of the Year encourages Club members to reach their full potential by achieving academic success, leading healthy lifestyles and contributing to their communities. Bailey will compete against other Boys & Girls Club members for the Connecticut Youth of the Year title and a $1,000 college scholarship. Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive.

The winner from the Northeast Region will go on to compete at the National Youth of the Year Celebration in Washington, D.C. in September.
