Students advocate for change
Hartford, CT – State Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) and member of the Judiciary is supporting a bill before the legislature that protects school children from sexual abuse by an educator.
At the hearing before the Judiciary Committee Namrata Ramakrishna, Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council from Stamford High School and Leticia Sanchez, part of the Center for Youth Leadership at Brian McMahon High School, Norwalk suggested several changes to the proposed bill.
The student leaders urged committee members to strengthen reporting on sexual abuse in schools adding they would like the enhancements to be part of a district’s safety plan.
Sen. Boucher said, “These students have highlighted an important issue. The job of a Teacher is paramount in society – teachers are molding our future generations.”
“You are making good suggestions in order to affect change in state law,” added Boucher.
