HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Last week, a $60 million error was found in the governor’s budget, and now there seems to be more issues.
The state’s comptroller said there is another problem that has brought the budget to be another $100 million short.
Gov. Dannel Malloy doesn’t seem too worried, but it will have to be fixed.
He said “you have to keep it in perspective” when talking about the $100 million shortfall, compared to the entire $60 billion budget.
Some have said this is going to be a tough year, and the only way out is to either raise taxes or make serious cuts.
Revenues are short and State Comptroller Kevin Lembo said income taxes paid by quarterly filers is way down.
Republicans said Malloy’s unbalanced budget will take back millions promised to hospitals, as well as cities and towns.
“The governor is just AWOL, he just is walking away from this and ringing his hands and saying ‘whatever it is, it is’ – and that’s fundamentally wrong,” said Republican Minority Leader and State Sen. Len Fasano.
The governor has already made two rounds of rescissions, which is money earmarked for certain things.
Some predict that there will have to be cuts as well.
