East Granby Resident, Sen. Kissel Push for Safety Measure at Capitol
February 11, 2015East Granby resident David Potter (left) and Sen. John A. Kissel (right) on Feb. 11 testified before the state legislature’s Transportation Committee in favor of proposed legislation which would improve safety at bicycle crossings. Under the proposal, which Potter came up with, Connecticut laws would be updated to mirror Massachusetts’ law. In Massachusetts, when roadways and bike paths intersect, cyclists are able to convert yellow flashing lights to red flashing lights with the press of a button at the intersection. “This is an excellent idea which could improve safety for cyclists and motorists alike and I thank David for coming to Hartford to share this information with state legislators,” Sen. Kissel said. “I encourage all residents to send me their ideas on how to improve our quality of life.” The bill awaits a vote in the Transportation Committee. The legislative session ends in June.
