February 11, 2015Area officials are applauding a $1,500 grant that has been awarded to the Colchester Historical Society.
The grant from Connecticut Humanities will support planning for an exhibition to open in Spring 2016 titled, “A Sense of Place: Postcards from Another Time.”
“This event will promote preservation awareness by highlighting the rich heritage of Colchester through an exhibition of vintage postcards depicting local historic structures and their stories,” Sen. Art Linares said.
Rep. Linda Orange said, “The Colchester Historical Society keeps history alive through important exhibits and events. I am very pleased Connecticut Humanities is backing their efforts to showcase our town’s rich history.”
“I just recently visited the Colchester Historical Society Museum for the first time. Their volunteers are outstanding and I look forward to seeing the exhibit,” said Rep. Melissa Ziobron.
“The Colchester Historical Society is grateful to the Connecticut Humanities for supporting our initiative to promote the wealth of historic structures in our midst,” Colchester Historical Society Co-President Gigi Liverant said. “We are excited about this upcoming exhibit that will integrate structural imagery from our vast vintage postcard collection and raise awareness about the importance of preservation. The map feature of the exhibit and a self-guided tour brochure will enable visitors to easily locate these historic structures most within walking distance of our museum.”
