Senator Hwang Welcomes Governor’s Proposal to Widen I-84
January 23, 2015The question remains: How will we pay for this project?
State Sen. Tony Hwang (R-28) released the following statement Jan. 23 in response to Governor Malloy’s proposal to widen Interstate 84 in the greater Danbury area to three lanes in both directions:
“Today’s announcement from the Governor is a great sign for the state of Connecticut and especially for the greater Danbury area, including residents and business owners in Newtown. Widening Interstate 84 in this corridor has been talked about for far too long. It’s time for us to finally move forward with this economically significant investment in our transportation infrastructure.”
“That said, I am anxiously waiting to hear from the Governor how he plans to pay for this proposal and the many other long-overdue transportation projects when he unveils his budget next month. Any conversation along those lines has to start with passage of a constitutional amendment to ensure every cent of the Special Transportation Fund goes back into our transportation infrastructure, in perpetuity. If we’re truly serious about investing in transportation, that has to be the first step of our plan.”
