GOP Legislative Leaders Release Statement on Consensus Revenues: Time to be Proactive
January 15, 2015Hartford – State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven), Senate Minority Leader, and Representative Themis Klarides (R-Derby), House Minority Leader, released the following statement today regarding Connecticut’s January 2015 consensus revenue report.
“The fact that there was no significant bump in holiday sales is indicative of the economy as a whole in Connecticut. Sadly, our state’s financial situation is worsening. Since November, we’ve seen a $39.2 million drop in anticipated revenue, leaving us with a $70.9 million deficit.
“We can blame this growing hole on a lot of things. We can argue that we don’t have control of many factors at play. But that gets us nowhere. As we’ve said before, we have to be proactive about addressing our state’s fiscal crisis. It’s time the governor and legislative leaders sit down together and hold a bipartisan meeting to identify long term solutions. We all want to see a brighter future for Connecticut. We all recognize the severity of the situation. It’s time to all work together to achieve that goal.”
