2015 Legislative Session Opening Day
January 8, 2015Sen. Formica: I am excited to start my work as a state senator for the people of the 20th district.
Hartford, CT – Senator Paul M. Formica (R-East Lyme) the newly appointed Minority Whip of the Senate Republican Caucus joined his colleagues in the General Assembly at the swearing in of the newly elected 2015 Legislative body.
This is Senator Formica’s first term as a state senator representing the 20th district towns of Bozrah, East Lyme, Montville, New London, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Salem and Waterford.
Formica is resigning his position as East Lyme’s first selectman effective today. The East Lyme town charter does not allow elected officials to hold two positions at one time.
“There are a lot of ideas for real savings at the state level that we have accomplished at the local level. I would like to bring that skill set to the budget process,” said Sen. Formica. “There are certain things that we will not agree on, but at the end of the day, we all want things like reasonable taxes and quality education.”
“I am excited to start my work as a state senator for the people of the 20th district. We have a lot of positive energy going into this New Year and I am happy to be a part of it,” said Sen. Formica.
The new Senate includes 36 members: 15 Republicans and 21 Democrats. The House is comprised of 151 members: 87 Democrats and 64 Republicans.
