Sen-elect Martin to Serve on Vets, Children’s, Banks and Transportation Panels
December 31, 2014Sen.-elect Henri Martin will serve as the lead Republican member of several legislative panels during the 2015 session of the Connecticut General Assembly.
Martin, who will be sworn in on Jan. 7 at the State Capitol, has been appointed by Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano to serve as ranking member of the state legislature’s Banks Committee, Committee on Children, and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Martin will also be a member of the Transportation Committee.
“I look forward to my work on these committees,” Martin said. “The significant policies that these panels address are of great importance to our communities. We face significant challenges in our region, from improving the quality of life for our vets to making our state a better place in which to do business. I feel I can make a positive impact in several policy areas and I’m eager to get started.”
- The Banks Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to banks, credit unions, and all legislation dealing with secured and unsecured lending.
- The Committee on Children has cognizance of all matters relating to children.
- The Committee on Veterans’ Affairs has cognizance of matters relating to military and veterans’ affairs.
- The Transportation Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Transportation, including highways and bridges, navigation, aeronautics, mass transit, and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
“In addition to serving on these committees, I plan to advocate for the elimination of unfunded mandates, lowering of energy costs and the elimination of wasteful state spending,” Martin added. “I will work with members of each party to reduce license fees for small businesses and tradesmen, end the income tax on pensions and social security, reduce gas taxes, and stop diverting funds from road and bridge repairs.”
“Henri will have a heavy workload with these assignments, but I know he is up to the challenge,” Sen. Fasano said. “We welcome his voice, his enthusiasm, his work ethic and his experience to the State Capitol. He will be an excellent senator on behalf of the people of greater Bristol.”
Martin will represent Bristol, Plainville, Harwinton, Plymouth and Thomaston.
He is the owner of Henri Martin Real Estate and Broad Street Self Storage. A two-term Bristol city councilman, Martin was appointed as Acting Mayor in 2013. He lives in Bristol with his wife of more than 30 years, Roxanne. He has four grown children; Heidi, Joey, Julie and Jon.
