Hartford – State Senator Joe Markley (R-16) released the following statement today regarding CT fastrak and the Department of Transportation’s unveiling of new buses for the Hartford to New Britain busway.

“CTFastrak is one of the most atrocious examples of Governor Malloy’s out of control spending. For a project that epitomizes government waste with no return on investment in sight, it’s a little early for a victory lap.

“Connecticut’s transportation needs are vast and plentiful. Our bridges are not safe, our roads are dangerous, and congestion impacts everyday life for almost every person in our state. But instead of fixing our current transportation structures, over $560 million is going towards a brand new busway, to serve a route that is already accessible via public transportation.

“I’ve ridden the bus from New Britain to Hartford many times, and there’s never a crowd. I do not understand how the governor’s administration can justify spending hundreds of millions of dollars to expand service when the demand clearly does not exist.

“Today, the only thing the governor is on track to do is further damage Connecticut’s fiscal stability. The people of Connecticut have every right to be outraged as the project moves forward.”
