May 15, 2014Senator Kevin Kelly participates in “Men Who Cook” Fundraiser for TEAM, Inc.
Hartford – Senator Kevin Kelly (R-21), with his daughter and son, participated in the seventh annual “Men Who Cook” fundraiser to support TEAM, Inc., a local non-profit that serves over 5,400 local families. On April 26th, 543 people gathered to enjoy food cooked and baked by community members at Warsaw Park in Ansonia.
The event raised over $69,000, all of which will help TEAM provide services and financial assistance to families in the Naugatuck-Housatonic Valley Region.
By uniting multiple programs, TEAM provides comprehensive support services including early education, elderly services, home heating assistance, housing assistance, economic literacy and asset building, and community and neighborhood services. TEAM is also an active member of the Valley Council of Health and Human Services and a Community Action Agency (CAA), one of only 11 in Connecticut and about 1,100 nationwide. CAAs carry out the Community Action Program, founded by the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act. These organizations focus on promoting self-sufficiency and rely heavily on volunteer work.
The “Men Who Cook” event included over 85 men who participated as volunteer chefs cooking and baking for the event. They served at 47 food stations.
