Canton – Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) and Representative Tim LeGeyt (R-Avon, Canton) joined officials from UConn Health and First Selectman Richard Barlow in participating in the groundbreaking ceremony for a new facility by UConn Health.

“I am happy to welcome UCONN to our community,” said Sen. Witkos. “The services this new location will provide are both very valuable and much needed. This new endeavor will also create high quality skilled jobs that can help support many local families. This is the kind of development that can surely help our community in more ways than one.”

The new, two story, 17,ooo square-foot facility will offer emergency care services as well as general practice and internal medicine. This will include services such as family medicine, internal medicine, dermatology/MOHs surgery, a blood drawing station, X-ray/digital radiology unit, and an Urgent Care Center. The new health center is being constructed at 115 Albany Turnpike in Canton, across from the new Canton Valley Shoppes.

“I’m very pleased that UConn Health is expanding its facility to include Canton,” said Rep. LeGeyt. “This new facility will not only offer quality care for various medical needs to the residents of Canton and the surrounding area, but also, new employment opportunities as well. It was an honor to be a participant in today’s groundbreaking, and I wish the UConn Health administration well in their expansion.”

Construction is expected to be completed in the spring of 2015.
