Connecticut State Sen. Jason Welch says “Hartford is broken,” the result of one-party rule in Connecticut. The Republican from the 31st District -Bristol, Harwinton, Plainville, Plymouth, Thomaston – is not running for a third term. He and his wife have seven children and he wants to devote more time to his family. However, Sen. Welch told me on the latest CTTalking Podcast that he intends to remain engaged in the political process.
We also talked about the recent survey he conducted among his constituents. To the question in the survey: “Do you believe Connecticut is headed in the right direction?” Only four people responded “yes.” Ninety-six responded “No.”

Sen. Welch’s constituents expressed their concerns over taxes, Common Core, the Hartford to New Britain busway, the new gun law, crumbling infrastructure and more in the survey. Sen. Jason WelchSadly, as I told Sen. Welch, none of these issues are the focus during this session of the Connecticut General Assembly. This points out the dangers of one party rule, as Democrats talk about anything except these important topics.
