Guglielmo Statement on Re-Opening State Police Barracks

March 24, 2014

Hartford, CT – State Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford) ranking member of the General Assembly’s Public Safety Committee released the following statement today re: Commissioner Dora Schriro’s announcement to restore all Connecticut state police barracks to 24/7 coverage.

“The decision to reopen the state police barracks to the public is a good one. Many people living in my district which has many small rural towns rely on the state police for protection. When the barracks are closed and the only safety net is a call box – if it is working – the community does not feel safe.

“I am confident the new commissioner will be looking at the structure of the state police and the effort to consolidate as it relates to more troopers being on patrol, response times and overall public safety. This is the first step in what I’m sure will be a lengthy but necessary process.”
