Senator McKinney Statement on CT Economic Outlook

December 23, 2013

State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney released the following statement today re: University of Connecticut Center of Economic Analysis quarterly economic outlook of Dec. 2013, which found that the state’s shrinking workforce is a major contributing factor to its recently improved unemployment rate.

“This report tells us that far too many of our neighbors have become so discouraged with the lack of opportunity in Governor Malloy’s economy that they have given up looking for full time work altogether.

“While New York is attracting new businesses by cutting taxes and offering innovative incentives to create jobs – things I have advocated for here in Connecticut – Governor Malloy continues instead to pick winners and losers and promote taxpayer giveaways to large multinational corporations so they can move from one Connecticut town to another. It isn’t working.

“This news should be a wakeup call to the administration and to the legislature. We need to work together to improve our business climate and help put our residents back to work.”
