Senator Talks about Political Path

Hartford, CT – Senator Jason Welch (R-Bristol) recently visited his law school alma mater, Quinnipiac School of Law in Hamden. Sen. Welch participated in a panel discussion entitled, “A career in Politics.”
The senator was joined by the Majority Leader of the Senate and a top legal advisor to the governor’s office. Students asked about career choices after law school and how the panelists ended up in politics in addition to questions like , “What do you do professionally outside of the legislature, and how have you supported yourself while you were in elected office?”

Senator Welch grew up in Torrington, attending North and Vogel schools. He holds an undergraduate degree from Hamilton College and a Juris Doctorate degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law where he served as Executive Managing Editor of the Quinnipiac Law Review.

He has served his country in both the United States Coast Guard Reserve and Army National Guard. Senator Welch has worked at some of Connecticut’s top law firms where he has focused on helping businesses resolve complicated disputes. Senator Welch now works as an attorney for a Lloyd’s of London Syndicate based in Farmington. Sen. Welch also worked at both McCarter and English and Cummings & Lockwood before moving on to his current role.

Senator Welch is the Senate’s Ranking Member on the Public Health and Veterans’ Affairs Committees. He also serves on the Appropriations, Judiciary and Internship Committees. Senator Welch was elected to the 31st district seat back in 2010 and is in his second term at the general assembly.
