Sen. Welch Visits CCSU

November 22, 2013

Hartford, CT – Senator Jason Welch (R-Bristol) recently visited a Social Welfare Policy class at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. The class focus is on understanding social work’s role in advocacy, community organizing, lobbying, and political action.

Students were able to ask Sen. Welch what drew him to public-service, what have been the most rewarding and challenging parts of his political career. The 23 students in the class are required to write an biography of a politician, conduct policy analysis, compose a letter to a public official and prepare testimony as if they were presenting to members of the legislature.

Senator Welch very much enjoyed the visit and students found his candor refreshing. Senator Welch is in his second term as a senator representing the 31st district towns of Bristol, Plainville, Plymouth, Thomaston and Harwinton.
