Boucher Statement on Long Time Commuter Advocate Stepping Down from Post
November 21, 2013Hartford, CT – State Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) ranking member of the Transportation Committee released the following statement today re: Jim Cameron stepping down from Governor’s Commuter Advocate Group.
“I am not surprised at this outcome. He will be sorely missed as Jim Cameron has been a strong voice and determined advocate for commuters. He has spearheaded the fight to improve service for our beleaguered commuters for more than two decades. Jim has criticized, cajoled and praised State Department of Transportation officials and equally held Republican and Democratic Governors to task when a commuter’s needs were not being met. His persistence often frustrated those at the helm but produced much needed changes for the commuting public.
“Rather than having his voice muted by the Governor’s decision to reconstitute the Commuter Council and change its mission, Cameron seems to be working toward creating an independent voice that focuses exclusively on the commuters’ rail experience. I wish him well in his future endeavors.”
