State to Open Storm Sandy Recovery Office in East Haven

October 21, 2013

To help assist in our community’s ongoing recovery from Super Storm Sandy, the Connecticut Department of Housing will open an East Haven office on Thursday for the purpose of accepting applications for the Owner Occupied Rehabilitation and Rebuilding Program (OORR). The office will be located at 52 South End Road, Unit A.

This program is designed to meet the housing needs of residents in communities most impacted by Super Storm Sandy that are not covered by insurance, FEMA, or any other sources of funding.

The general objectives of the OORR include:

  • assisting people directly affected by Super Storm Sandy who incurred damage on or after October 29;
  • replacing and rehabilitating homes;
  • identifying mitigation measures;
  • and improving the resilience of homes.

An online application and list of required documents can be accessed at the Department of Housing’s website:

Beginning Thursday, the East Haven office located at 52 South End Road, Unit A will be officially open from 9 AM to 7 PM Monday through Friday and 9 AM to 3:30 PM on Saturdays.

The State has allocated $30,000,000 toward the Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation program.

The grant award for each eligible property ranges from $10,000 – $150,000.

The State will contract with homeowners and general contractors for the approved scope of work.

Please note that any assistance provided will be secured with a five-year Deferred Forgivable Promissory Note that bears no interest. If the homeowner sells, transfers, or vacates the property for any period of time during the term of the five-year Note, repayment terms will be enforced.

As always, please do not hesitate to call my office directly if I can be of assistance.
