Hartford, CT – State Senator Jason Welch (R-Bristol) has been appointed to serve on The Council of State Governments’ Eastern Regional Conference’s Health Committee from 2013 through 2014.

“As a member of the Health Committee, I look forward to working with my regional colleagues to ensure that CSG/ERC will focus on the key policy issues that will promote a more competitive and affordable system for Connecticut, as well as the citizens in my district,” Sen. Welch said.

“Committee membership also provides a unique networking opportunity for me, to share ideas and insights with my counterparts from throughout the Northeast region and bring best practices and resources to my constituents.”

CSG/ERC is a non-profit, non-partisan organization, located in New York City since 1937, serves legislative, executive and judicial branch officials in 11 Northeastern States as well as the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and five Eastern Canadian provinces.

CSG/ERC’s policy staff supports the three branches of state government through nine areas of special concern to the region. These include agriculture, criminal justice, economic development, education, energy and environment, fiscal affairs, health care, transportation and US-Canada relations.

Its mission is to promote successful state policy innovations, advocate multi-jurisdictional problem solving, advocate for regional interests at the federal level, offer leadership training and technical assistance and forecast policy trends that affect the Northeast.

“In this challenging economic climate, especially in Connecticut where unemployment remains at more than 8% it is more important than ever that we receive and share information to promote our regional priorities at the federal level,” Sen. Welch said.
