Sen. Kissel, State Officials Inspect Tornado Damage

July 2, 2013

On July 2, Sen. John A. Kissel joined with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and state and local officials to inspect shade tobacco damage at Thrall’s Farm in Windsor.

The farm, located at 715 River Street, sustained considerable damage during the July 1 tornado.

The state officials noted that Connecticut farms suffering damage from the tornado and severe weather are now eligible to apply for the Production Loss Assistance Needed Today (PLANT) grants, which are providing assistance to farms that have suffered damage from this year’s severe weather events. A total of $5 million in assistance is available.

The state will work with the nonprofit Connecticut Farm Bureau Association to administer the awards, which will be based on the number of eligible applications received by the July 15, 2013, deadline. For additional information, visit www.CTGrown.gov or call 860-713-2573.
