State Senator Robert J. Kane Joins Post University’s MPA Advisory Council
June 25, 2013WATERBURY, Conn. (June 24, 2013) – Today, Post University announced that Connecticut State Senator (District 32) Robert J. Kane of Watertown will serve as a member of the University’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) Advisory Council.
“It is an honor to be asked to serve on this panel,” Sen. Kane said. “Post is known for its quality, career-driven academic programs and small classes. I hope to help the University build upon its already stellar reputation as a hub for innovation in higher education and help build an MPA program that is second to none.”
David Jannetty, Academic Program Manager for the MPA program offered through the John P. Burke School of Public Service, says Sen. Kane is well-suited for membership on the Advisory Council due to his long history of public service, his experience with the inner workings of government, and his reputation as a successful business owner.
“As a leader in our community and in our state, we’re thrilled to have Sen. Kane accept the invitation to join our Advisory Council,” Jannetty said. “The MPA program has a careful mix of MBA courses integrated into the curriculum in order to provide students with strong business acumen when they graduate, which we’ve found is critical to their success. As a business owner and public official, Sen. Kane undoubtedly understands the importance of building strong executive administration skills.”
Sen. Kane will join six other Advisory Council members from a variety of organizations, including the Richmond Police Department and St. Mary’s Hospital, in providing real-world insight to help shape Post University’s MPA program and its curriculum.
“Through his input as an Advisory Council member, Sen. Kane will be able to keep us abreast of pressing issues and trends in public administration, and help us determine how to best prepare our students to make a real and immediate difference in their organizations,” said Jannetty. “Sen. Kane’s invaluable real-world insight, and that of our other council members, will provide us with a foundation for continually improving and evolving the program in response to industry changes and best practices,” said Jannetty.
Post University’s MPA program is a completely online degree program designed for working professionals in government, nonprofit, military or other public sector organizations, and features a curriculum with a strong focus on management, organizational and financial skills. In addition to courses in public administration, students take a number of courses offered through the Malcolm Baldrige School of Business’ award-winning online MBA degree program.
Sen. Kane was first elected to represent the 32nd Senatorial District in 2008. In addition to Watertown, his district includes the communities of Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Roxbury, Seymour, Southbury, Washington and Woodbury. Sen. Kane is a Senate Deputy Minority Leader, serves as the Ranking Member of the Connecticut General Assembly’s Appropriations Committee, and also is a member of the Public Health and Regulations Review committees.
Sen. Kane is a successful business owner and an active member of the community. He continues to operate the business he founded, KarTele Cellular Phones in Waterbury. He is past chair of the Watertown Town Council and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce. Sen. Kane is a past recipient of the Waterbury Regional Chamber Malcolm Baldrige Award for Volunteerism, and a past recipient of the Waterbury Regional Chamber Harold Webster Smith Small Business Award.
