SIMSBURY — State Sen. Kevin Witkos will be at a gas station in town on Monday asking people to sign a petition demanding the repeal of the planned increase in the tax on gasoline, his office has announced.
According to the announcement, Witkos will be at the Gulf station at 125 West St. from 4 to 6 p.m. People who want to ask questions about the increase in the tax increase may do so and can sign the “Axe the Gas Tax” petition that Republicans around the state will be circulating on Monday.
The petition effort is being pushed by other Republicans at the state Capitol. According to an announcement from the party’s legislative leaders GOP legislators will be at nine locations throughout the state on Monday to get people to sign the petition.
“Connecticut drivers are already fed up with the gas tax,” Witkos said in a statement. “When this tax increase hits on July 1, families and businesses around our state will see their costs go up. This petition will help send a message to Gov. Malloy that we have had enough of these tax increases. I look forward to seeing you at the Gulf station on Monday.”
People can also sign the petition signed online at http://www.AxeTheGasTaxCT.com. According to Witkos’s office, Connecticut’s current taxes on a gallon of gas total about 47 cents and the coming tax hike will tack on approximately four more cents per gallon.
