State Senator Kevin Witkos recently hosted a flag collection in Simsbury and Barkhamsted.

Simsbury – State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) collected tattered and torn flags for proper retirement in two area communities on Saturday, June 8th.

“Each year, I have made it my duty to collect these flags in early June,” said Senator Witkos. “Thanks to the American Legion, these flags receive a proper and respectful retirement in honor of Flag Day, which commemorates the day that our nation officially adopted the ‘Stars and Stripes.’ I sincerely appreciate their support and look forward to continuing this important event next year.”

Senator Witkos collected over 200 flags at the Simsbury Transfer Station from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the Regional Refuse Disposal District One Transfer Station in Barkhamsted from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The flags were given to the American Legion for proper retirement at a Flag Day ceremony.
