Sen. Michael McLachlan (R-Danbury), who co-chairs the legislature’s bipartisan Life Sciences Caucus and serves on the bipartisan Manufacturing Caucus, welcomed representatives from Boehringer Ingelheim Corp. to the State Capitol on May 15.

The company displayed its products and services as part of Manufacturing & Technology Day 2013.

“We are quite proud of the innovative work Boehringer performs,” Sen. McLachlan said. “Their visit to Hartford helped make the case to state legislators that manufacturing is vitally important to the state’s economy. This is the type of industry that the state of Connecticut needs to nurture and encourage. Companies like Boehringer help drive Connecticut’s economy and play major roles in the well-being of our communities.”

Nearly 4,500 manufacturing companies in Connecticut generate more than $13 billion in wages and salaries for their employees each year.

Sen. McLachlan noted that Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals is the second-largest drug company in Connecticut. The local workforce increased by more than 40 percent over the last 10 years, at the same time its employee numbers worldwide grew by 35 percent.
