Senator Witkos and Representative Hampton Update Simsbury Residents at Board of Selectmen Meeting
April 17, 2013Simsbury – State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-8) and State Representative John Hampton (D-16) provided a legislative and budget update to Simsbury residents at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday, April 8th.
“As your voice in Hartford, I want to make sure that you are fully informed of the proposals currently before the state legislature,” said Senator Witkos. “This year is especially important because we will be developing the next two-year state budget. As a member of the Finance Committee, I will be pushing for a reduced level of state spending and working to stop any proposal to increase taxes. I would also like to thank everyone who shared their thoughts and concerns with us tonight.”
Senator Witkos and Representative Hampton joined the local officials and constituents to discuss the 2013 legislative session, including the proposed state budget and the potential impact on municipal government.
“I appreciated the opportunity to provide a legislative update to the Board of Selectmen and the Town of Simsbury; the General Assembly is addressing a multitude of major issues this session and it is critical that we keep our constituents and local officials engaged in the process,” Rep. Hampton explained. “There are people in our community who rely on certain programs. As legislators we need to provide a balanced approach to providing those services while reducing the costs of doing so. Connecticut is facing tremendous fiscal challenges, but there are some good ideas on the table especially for regionalizing certain programs to reduce the cost of administration and implementation.”
