HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — On Tuesday a key legislative committee voted unanimously to endorse universal background checks for all gun purchases in Connecticut.

The vote came down in a Public Safety Committee meeting, the same group that held the big hearing on gun control measures last week.

“The committee unanimously decided that that was something that was sensible and went along with it and I think we did for a couple of reasons. Number one because it’s sensible and two, I think we wanted to show that something can come out of the General Assembly on a bipartisan basis,” said Sen. Tony Guglielmo.

This proposal would close the so-called ‘Gun show loop-hole’ and require background checks on private sales for the first time.

The committee voted to send this proposal directly to the floor of the State Senate for action.
