Hartford – State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-8) and State Representative John Hampton (D-16) welcomed a group of Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 66420 of Simsbury to the State Capitol on Wednesday, February 27th.

“It is a great day when my young constituents visit their State Capitol to see firsthand the place where public policy becomes law,” said Senator Witkos. “I always enjoy speaking about how we can improve the quality of life in our state. The Girl Scouts are an impressive organization that helps our children develop essential skills, including leadership, responsibility and critical thinking at a young age.”

Senator Witkos and Representative Hampton met with the scouts as part of the annual “Girl Scouts at the Capitol Day.” The legislators provided an update about state government and how legislation is developed with the help of public input. In a question and answer session, the scouts shared some of their ideas for improving school nutrition and supporting renewable energy.

“I am so inspired by these young women and who they are growing up to be thanks in part to the skill-building programs they encounter while in the Girl Scouts,” noted Representative Hampton. “While I wasn’t allowed to become an honorary Girl Scout like my female colleagues, I proudly joined the newly created Connecticut General Assembly Troop.”
