Hartford – State Senator Kevin C. Kelly (R-21) welcomed members of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council to the State Capitol on Thursday, March 14th. Over a dozen members of the Business Council attended the event which was an opportunity to learn more about state government and meet with area legislators.

“The Business Council is an excellent organization that promotes leadership, development and economic growth,” said Senator Kelly. “In fact, I graduated from the Leadership Greater Bridgeport program and would encourage members of the community to learn more about this unique opportunity. In the current economy, our state must do more to encourage economic growth and provide hard working families with good paying jobs. With your help, we can understand how best to devote our resources to accomplish this goal.”

Speaking before members of the Business Council, Senator Kelly discussed the important strides that have been made to reform the state’s aging policies in recent years.

“Last year, the legislature empowered a task force to study how we can promote aging in place,” continued Senator Kelly. “During the 2013 legislative session, I introduced proposals that would implement some of the study’s findings, including increased eligibility for community-based care and respite care programs. While these are important first steps, I will continue to advocate for legislation that makes the necessary changes to transportation, nutrition and zoning laws that will benefit Connecticut seniors and their families.”

The Bridgeport Regional Business Council mission is to encourage economic development of the region that will lead to new jobs and tax base growth. Their goal is to create a more receptive business environment that will allow current businesses to expand their operations and attract new businesses to the area.
