Sen. John A. Kissel applauded the State Bond Commission’s March 13 approval of $1.1 million for research and lab equipment and $266,000 for information technology upgrades for Asnuntuck Community College (ACC) in Enfield.
“ACC’s Manufacturing Technology Center produces skilled workers – individuals who are ready to hit the ground running at area businesses once they graduate,” Sen. Kissel said. “The Center feeds the need for talented workers here in north-central Connecticut and throughout the state.”
In 2011, Sen. Kissel successfully fought to include a substantial injection of funding for the Manufacturing Technology Center into the bipartisan Jobs Bill. That injection resulted in $1.1 million for ACC last year and another $1.1 million this year. The program, which trains machinists and welders, has also added electro-mechanical training and medical device coursework. It is designed to meet the specific needs of corporations like Aero Gear Inc. of Windsor, Stowe Machine Co. Inc. of Windsor and Delta Industries of East Granby.
“90 percent of all ACC graduates have gone on to work in their fields,” Sen. Kissel said. “These funds will build upon ACC’s success and allow the college to train even more of our future workforce.”
