State Senator L. Scott Frantz Sworn In For Third Term As State Senator for 36th District

Senator Frantz to Serve as Deputy Minority Leader and Ranking Member on Finance and Commerce

Hartford – State Senator L. Scott Frantz (R-36) was officially sworn into office during the opening day of the 2013 legislative session at the State Capitol on Wednesday, January 9th. Senator Frantz returns for his third term serving as state senator of the 36th Senate District, which includes the communities of Greenwich, New Canaan and Stamford.

“It is an honor to once again begin serving in the General Assembly today for the benefit of the people of Greenwich, New Canaan and Stamford,” said Senator Frantz. “In the coming weeks and months, there will be a lot of challenges and opportunities facing legislators, and I am confident that we continue to improve state government.”

Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-28) recently appointed Senator Frantz to serve as Ranking Member on both the General Assembly’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and the Commerce Committee. He will also serve as a member of the Transportation and Legislative Management committees. Senator Frantz was also appointed Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate Republican Caucus.

On the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, Senator Frantz will replace former State Senator Andrew Roraback as the Republican leader of the legislature’s powerful tax-writing committee.

“I am honored to have been chosen to be the Ranking Member of this committee and will help lead the efforts to develop a more responsible state budget for the next two years while minimizing the tax burden on individuals and businesses,” continued Senator Frantz.

On the Commerce Committee, Senator Frantz will continue to serve as ranking senator and will push for legislation aimed at improving the state’s business environment and promoting economic growth.

“Connecticut consistently ranks low in measures of our business environment because of high taxes and burdensome regulations,” said Senator Frantz. “I plan on addressing these concerns in the Commerce Committee and supporting policies that will put our state back on the path of economic growth and job creation.”

As a member of the Transportation Committee, Senator Frantz will continue to advocate for legislation to improve public transportation, modernize and expand commuter rail lines, improve parking resources and keep the state from diverting transportation funds from the special transportation fund account.

On the Legislative Management Committee, Senator Frantz will also review the operations of the General Assembly, including matters such as working conditions and employee compensation.
