Senator Witkos to Serve as Deputy Minority Leader Pro Tempore, Caucus Chairman for Outreach and Ranking Member on General Law and Internship

Hartford – State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-8) was officially sworn into office during the opening day of the 2013 legislative session at the State Capitol on Wednesday, January 9th. Senator Witkos returns for his third term serving as state senator of the 8th Senate District, which includes the communities of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury and Torrington.

“I am honored to once again have the opportunity to serve the people of the 8th Senate District,” said Senator Witkos. “Over the next few months, legislators will focus on the many challenging issues facing our state today, and I look forward to supporting legislation to encourage economic growth and job creation and to resolve next year’s projected $1 billion budget deficit.”

Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-28) recently appointed Senator Witkos to serve as Ranking Member on both the General Assembly’s General Law Committee and Internship Committee. He will also serve as a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and Public Safety Committee. Senator Witkos was additionally appointed to a leadership position with the Senate Republican Caucus now holding the title of Deputy Minority Leader Pro Tempore and Caucus Chairman for Outreach.
