Hartford – State Senator Kevin C. Kelly (R-21) was officially sworn into office during the opening day of the 2013 legislative session at the State Capitol on Wednesday, January 9th. Senator Kelly returns for his second term serving as state senator of the 21st Senate District, which includes the communities of Monroe, Seymour, Shelton and Stratford.
“I am honored to once again have the opportunity to serve the people of Monroe, Seymour, Shelton and Stratford in the General Assembly,” said Senator Kelly. “Building upon the good work that was started during my first term, I look forward to working together on legislation to put our families back to work and fix the state’s budget problems.”
Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-28) recently appointed Senator Kelly to serve as Ranking Member on both the General Assembly’s Aging Committee and Insurance and Real Estate Committee. He will also serve as a member of the Appropriations and Judiciary committees. Senator Kelly was also appointed Assistant Minority Leader of the Senate Republican Caucus.
As ranking member of the Aging Committee, Senator Kelly promised to renew the focus on improving the quality of life for seniors living in our state.
“Last year, we successfully passed legislation that formed a task force studying the benefits of aging in place and expanded the annual income limit for the Alzheimer’s Respite Care Program,” said Senator Kelly. “This new session gives us another opportunity to review the state’s policies affecting seniors, and I will work toward developing smart and innovative legislation to benefit seniors and their families.”
