January 7, 2013

Hartford – State Senator-Elect Clark Chapin (R-30) received four committee assignments for the 2013-2014 legislative sessions and will be sworn in for his first term as a state senator at the State Capitol on Wednesday, January 9th.

Last week, senate minority leadership announced that Senator-elect Chapin will serve as ranking member of the Environment and Energy and Technology committees. He will also serve as a member of the Appropriations and Regulation Review committees.

As Senate ranking member of the Environment Committee, Senator-elect Chapin promised to continue his hard work on the committee where he had previously served as House ranking member.

“Serving in northwestern Connecticut, I have long supported environmental and agricultural initiatives, and I look forward to continuing this important role on the Environment Committee,” said Senator-elect Chapin.

As the new ranking member of the Energy and Technology Committee, Senator-elect Chapin said, “Energy is one of the most important issues impacting families throughout our state, and I am interested in working on new legislation to make it both more affordable and more reliable.”

On the Appropriations Committee, Senator-elect Chapin will play an important role in the development of the state budget.

“Our state is currently on track to see a $1 billion budget deficit in the next fiscal year, and legislators must push for more responsible levels of spending,” said Senator-elect Chapin. “It is my hope that this committee will fully understand the many challenges facing our state before developing the next two-year budget.”

As a member the Regulation Review Committee, Senator-elect Chapin will review regulations proposed by state agencies and approve them before the regulations are implemented. Since all regulations have the force of law, it is important that regulations to not conflict with legislative intent or conflict with current state or federal laws.

Senator-elect Chapin represents the communities of the 30th Senate District, including Brookfield, Canaan, Cornwall, Goshen, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, New Milford, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Torrington, Warren and Winchester.
