Sen. Michael McLachlan on Jan 25 listened to state residents who gathered at a State Capitol public hearing to express their thoughts on how to improve school security policies.
The legislative working group Sen. McLachlan serves on is reviewing ways to improve school security after the deadly Newtown shooting.
The hearing was attended by teachers, public safety officials and mayors and first selectmen from across Connecticut. Among the attendees was Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, who testified on behalf of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM).
“I thank Mayor Boughton and the many area residents who came to the State Capitol to testify, as well as the scores of citizens who submitted their comments online,” Sen. McLachlan said. “Our mutual goal is to make our schools as safe as they possibly can be.”
Sen. McLachlan noted that the public can still send testimony electronically to [email protected] . Visit the committee’s website at www.cga.ct.gov/asaferconnecticut. The website includes information on the task force’s membership and four scheduled public hearings, as well as a link for submitting online testimony.
