HARTFORD >> State Sen. Art Linares this week was named to the legislature’s Bipartisan Task Force’s School Safety Working Group.
Linares’ panel will assist legislative leaders in their review of current law and make recommendations on a range of potential legislation to improve school safety.
The effort stems from the Dec. 14 shooting rampage at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, which killed 20 first graders and six educators.
Linares, who is the ranking member on the Select Committee on Children and serves on the Education Committee, said he was honored to be named to the panel.
“What happened in Newtown is such a horrible tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to all of the families affected,” Linares said in a statement. “My goal as state senator is to do all I can to protect the citizens of this state. There are steps that can be taken to make our schools and our communities safer, and I look forward to serving on the school safety working group.”
