Senator Chapin to Serve as Deputy Minority Leader and Ranking Member on Energy and Environment

Hartford – State Senator Clark Chapin (R-30) was officially sworn into office during the opening day of the 2013 legislative session at the State Capitol on Wednesday, January 9th. Senator Chapin begins his first term serving as state senator of the 30th Senate District, which includes the communities of Brookfield, Canaan, Cornwall, Goshen, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, New Milford, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Torrington, Warren and Winchester.

“I am honored to have been given the opportunity to continue to serve the people of northwest Connecticut,” said Senator Chapin. “After serving for six terms as State Representative, I am looking forward to continuing the important work that remains to be done, such as fixing the projected $1 billion budget deficit and making energy more affordable and more reliable for families throughout our state.”

Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-28) recently appointed Senator Chapin to serve as Ranking Member on both the General Assembly’s Energy and Technology Committee and Environment Committee. He will also serve as a member on the Appropriations Committee and Regulation Review Committee. Senator Chapin was also appointed Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate Republican Caucus.

“During his tenure in the State House of Representatives, Senator Chapin has demonstrated strong leadership on a number of important issues, from improving environmental quality to supporting small businesses,” said Senator McKinney. “I am honored to appoint Senator Chapin as Deputy Minority Leader because his longtime service as state representative will provide an invaluable perspective to the Senate Republican Caucus and all of his assignments in the State Senate.”

Senator Chapin joins the Senate after serving six terms as the State Representative of the 67th District. Prior to his election to the State House of Representatives in November 2000, Senator Chapin previously served on the New Milford Town Council for three terms.

His lengthy public service record includes service as chairman of the New Milford Fire Alarm Appeal Board, as a member on the Local Emergency Planning Committee and as an alternate to the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority. In addition, he has served as vice chairman of the Municipal Pool Committee, as a member of the Long-Range Capital Planning Committee for Unimproved Roads, as a chairman of the New Milford Traffic Authority and as a member of the Water Pollution Control Authority.
