Stratford – State Senator Kevin C. Kelly (R-21) and State Representative Laura Hoydick (R-120) attended a ribbon cutting and business tour at the Two Roads Brewing Company on Tuesday, October 16th.

“The investment of private money to redevelop an existing manufacturing property bringing up to 70 new jobs to our community is very exciting and encouraging, especially in this tough economy,” said Senator Kelly. “For months now, the Stratford delegation has been united in supporting the Two Roads project, and I am honored to be a part of today’s ribbon cutting. I also look forward to the grand opening when members of the public will have the opportunity to once again enjoy Connecticut-made products.”

The legislators celebrated the ribbon cutting with business partners Brad Hittle, Peter Doering and Clement Pallani, Brewmaster Phil Markowski, Mayor John Harkins and Governor Dannel Malloy.

“This was a tremendous team effort between a company with a great business plan, and state and local leaders,” said Rep. Hoydick. “The benefits that Two Roads Brewery will provide to Stratford cannot be understated, and it is terrific to see the results of all this work coming together in a great new business in our town.”

During the 2012 legislative session, the Stratford legislative delegation was unanimous in its support for the Two Roads Brewing Company project.

On Tuesday, February 28th, Senator Kelly, Representative Hoydick and Mayor Harkins testified with partners Brad Hittle and Peter Doering before the Connecticut General Assembly’s General Law Committee in support of Section 4 of House Bill 5021, “An Act Concerning Competitive Alcoholic Liquor Pricing and Hours of Operation for Permittees.”

This section allows breweries to provide beer offerings and tastings without requiring a visitor to first take a tour of the premises and increases the amount of beer that may be sold at retail to an individual.

Also, on February 29th, the Stratford delegation sent a letter to Catherine Smith, Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), in support of the Town of Stratford’s application for funding through the 2012 Municipal Brownfield Grant Program.

On March 23rd, DECD approved a $500,000 grant to aid in the remediation of previously unidentified contamination in the main building of the former U.S. Baird Corporation.

The Two Roads Brewing Company, located at 1700 Stratford Avenue, plans to bring 70 jobs to Stratford. To learn more about the company, please visit their website at www.tworoadsbrewing.com.
