AARP to Honor Senator Kevin Kelly for Championing Community-Based Care
October 15, 2012Hartford – State Senator Kevin C. Kelly (R-21) has been selected to receive a 2012 Legislative Achievement Award from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) for championing a balanced long-term care system that honors individual dignity and choice.
“We commend you for protecting and improving home and community-based services and caregiver supports,” Connecticut AARP officials wrote to Senator Kelly on October 9th. “These programs provide residents options to live independently in the community. AARP also commends your commitment to legal and system supports for family caregivers.”
“Families deserve to have the best options for community-based care, and I have worked tirelessly to ensure that the state plays an active role in continuing to improve these services,” said Senator Kelly. “After helping to pass legislation forming a task force to review how we can best support ‘aging in place,’ I look forward to their recommendations and putting a firm plan together that will benefit seniors and their families.”
AARP officials will formally present Senator Kelly with the award at the organization’s Volunteer & Partner Recognition Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 16th at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.
