Legislators Welcome Shelton Intermediate School Robotic Revolution Team to State Capitol

Hartford – State Senator Kevin C. Kelly (R-21) and State Representatives Jason Perillo (R-113) and Larry Miller (R-122) welcomed students from the award-winning Shelton Intermediate School Robotic Revolution Team to the State Capitol on Monday, August 27th.

“Shelton’s Robotic Revolution Team is a dynamic and creative approach to engaging students in science and technology in a meaningful way,” said Senator Kelly. “Through innovation, we can develop new technologies that can make a difference in our everyday lives. The success of this team is no easy task. A national championship is only achieved through hard work and effort.”

The team tied for first place in the second annual First Lego League Global Innovation Award ceremony with the Smart Sticker food safety invention. The invention indicates whether or not food has been stored at the appropriate temperature.

Rep. Perillo said, “It is really wonderful to celebrate intellectual and academic success. I look at these students and I feel a tremendous sense of pride in them and in their advisors. This national recognition is quite an achievement.”

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 19th and the winning teams will receive up to $250,000 in development services. They will also be featured on the PBS television show “Everyday Edisons.”

“Shelton residents are proud of the accomplishments of their own. We can all learn something from these students, who used technology to help improve their community,” said Rep. Miller.
