Senator Kevin Kelly Awarded 100% Environmental Score by League of Conservation Voters

July 12, 2012

Hartford – State Senator Kevin C. Kelly (R-21) was awarded an overall legislative score of 100% by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) based on the votes he cast on bills that affect the environment during the 2012 session.

“As State Senator, it is a priority of mine to improve our environment and air quality, clean up brownfields, and preserve and protect Connecticut’s natural resources,” said Senator Kelly. “It is necessary to consider all legislative proposals, environmental and otherwise, within the context of the state’s limited resources while balancing the state’s most pressing need – improving our economy and helping put Connecticut families back to work.”

During the 2012 legislative session, Senator Kelly supported bills that will help reduce harmful levels of phosphorus in our state’s rivers, lakes and streams, ensure the safe disposal of pharmaceuticals, reduce air pollution generated by outdoor wood burning furnaces and modernize the state’s coastal zone management laws to balance environmental concerns with the rights of property owners.

“I am honored to receive this recognition from the League of Conservation Voters, and I look forward to continuing to support smart legislation that will benefit our environment and improve the state’s economy,” continued Senator Kelly. “This year, I am especially proud that we were able to pass legislation that will identify sources of revenue to clean up Raymark waste from residential properties and improve the environment of our community.”
