June 5, 2012

Bridgeport – State Senators Kevin C. Kelly (R-21) and Anthony Musto (D-22) joined members of the Bridgeport Area League of Women Voters for their annual meeting at the Discovery Museum on Thursday, May 24th.

“The League of Women Voters is an important organization that gives back to our community,” said Senator Kevin Kelly. “I applaud your dedication and hard work ensuring that voters of the Greater Bridgeport area have the opportunity to hear from legislators about how they propose to improve the quality of life in our towns and cities.”

Senators Kelly and Musto spoke about the 2012 legislative session, including laws that will enhance voting rights. Some of these initiatives include the removal of restrictions on voting by absentee ballot and requiring the secretary of the state to establish and maintain an online system for new voter registration applications.

“I am proud to have helped pass legislation this year that will make it easier for people to register to vote,” said Senator Anthony Musto. “These measures will boost voter participation all over the state, increasing access to our democratic process for everyone.”

The League of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area has active divisions in Bridgeport, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull, and an inactive division in Shelton. Their primary focus is voter service, including scheduling debates and forums between candidates. For more information, please visit their website at http://bptarea.lwvconnecticut.org.
