Sen. McKinney Reacts to Gov. Malloy’s Comments re: Speaker Donovan
June 4, 2012State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-Fairfield) today released the following statement in response to comments from Governor Dannel P. Malloy made at a morning news conference.
“Governor Malloy may be satisfied with Speaker Donovan’s limited responses to the news media, but I am not. Let me be clear: the disturbing allegations of corruption in the federal affidavit following the arrest of the Speaker’s campaign finance director cast a dark cloud over the entire legislature and the legislative process.
“Speaker Donovan has a responsibility to the people of Connecticut and to the integrity of state government to answer any and all questions and tell us what he knows. He has failed to fulfill this obligation, despite the fact that he is under no legal requirement to withhold information in his possession. Although he is within his rights to not answer questions, his decision to remain silent on important information regarding these allegations is a personal one, intended only to help himself.
“I urge other legislative leaders who are concerned about the integrity of our institution to call on Speaker Donovan to be more forthcoming.”
