Hartford – State Senator Kevin C. Kelly (R-21) welcomed seventh and eighth grade students from the Creative Learning After School Program (CLASP) at David Wooster Middle School of Stratford to the State Capitol on Friday, April 13th.

“I was impressed by the strong enthusiasm these students expressed for our state history and government,” said Senator Kelly. “While touring the Senate Chamber, we spoke about the story behind the Charter Oak and how senators make the final decision to vote for or against proposed legislation. I am hopeful that these young leaders in our community will continue to show an interest in public service.”

Senator Kelly joined the students during a tour of the Capitol and Legislative Office Building. According to their website, CLASP “offers a wide range of activities designed to engage all age groups and ability levels within the school. Our mission is to create a safe and healthy learning environment that combines sound academic instruction and valuable enrichment experiences – all designed to address critical skills, foster team-building, and promote positive citizenship in school and out in the community.”

The program is a partnership between Stratford Public Schools and the Town of Stratford Community Services. To learn more about David Wooster Middle School and the CLASP program, please visit their website at www.woostermiddle.stratfordk12.org.
