On March 30, State Senator Rob Kane attended an award ceremony at the State Capitol announcing the winners of Donate Life Connecticut’s 2012 Annual Poster Art Contest.

Thirty-six schools in Connecticut submitted 405 posters for the contest to raise awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation.

“I applaud the efforts of teachers who engaged students to think about organ and tissue donation, and I wanted to personally commend the participating students for submitting fine works of art,” Senator Kane said.

Kane and other legislators have proposed a bill establishing an advisory council on organ and tissue donation education and awareness. This volunteer group will advise state officials on methods to increase organ and tissue donation rates in the state.

“As I know it is for many people, this is a matter of personal significance for me,” Sen. Kane said. “My friend, Oxford Selectman David Yish, is a heart transplant recipient who celebrates the five-year anniversary of his transplant this April.”

April is National Donate Life month – a month where Sen. Kane said he will continue to raise awareness of this important issue and hopefully spur family conversations that could benefit others.
