Town by Town Storm Update

November 3, 2011

We are beginning to see significant power restoration across the district.  My hope is there will be light, heat and hot water for all very soon.

Here is the latest Storm Update Town by Town:

Stafford:

  • National Guard was called and their response was they could not assist the town
  • CL&P working to cut and clear main roads
  • Begin restoration service starting Rt. 32 River Rd. Thursday AM
  • Shelter Stafford Middle School is open Info on flyer
  • Road cleanup being performed by Public Works, FD’s and private contractors
  • Transfer Station open regular hours brush and trash being accepted fees and purple bags waived until power is restored
  • Limited supplies of MRE food and water available at the shelter
  • Cell phone charging and water for drinking and flushing is available at FD’s Community Center, Middle School, also potable water is available at Crystal Lake School from water tanker truck bring your own containers to all locations!!!

******The November 8, 2011, Municipal Election will be at the Stafford Senior/Community Center. 
ALL DISTRICTS WILL BE VOTING AT THE SENIOR / COMMUNITY CENTER ON BUCKLEY HIGHWAY
VOTING IS 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Tolland:

Storm debris can be dropped off at: 
Cross Farms 
Beginning Friday 
8 a.m. until dusk 
Spoiled food can be brought to the dumpster at: 
The Tolland Highway Garage 
Thursday (today) 
8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

  • Line and tree crews have arrived in Tolland from South Carolina and will be working in Tolland for the remainder of the day.
  • The Library will be closed and the Town Hall hours will be from 9:00 am-5:00 pm TODAY.
  • The Solid Waste and Recycling Pickup for the week of October 31st is cancelled for the whole week.
  • Tentatively the pickup will start on Monday as normal (November 7th).
  • Please remember that everything has to be in the tote for pickup.
  • Also as a reminder, the Bulky and Metal pickup will be for the week of November 7th.

Union: 
The town hall is open for showers, water, charging of electronics, etc. 
The new hours of operation are: 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Vernon: 
A dumpster will be available at the following location: 
Transfer Station on Hockanum Blvd 
Wednesday through Saturday 
8 am to 4 pm 
Sunday 
12 pm to 4 pm 
For perishable items and household waste, No Bulky items at this time 
UPDATE There will be NO REFUSE/ RECYCLING on Monday through Friday Nov 4th.

Woodstock

The Town Hall is available for flushing water, bottled water, MREs, hot coffee, snacks, warmth, wireless Internet access, and cell phone charging.  As the regional shelter for Woodstock residents and residents from surrounding towns the town hall offers a warm place to sleep.

Please bring the following:

• Sleeping bags and pillows or linens 
• Toiletries and face cloths 
• Medication 
• Cell phones 
• Diapers and formula for children 
• Snacks 
• Activities

The Transfer Station will be open from 10 am – 4 pm, Friday-Sunday. (Non-permit holders may dispose of food waste only but must provide proof of residency.)

The Hyde School has opened Krebbs Gymnasium to Woodstock residents for showers from noon-2 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm. (Please park in the Cultural Center parking lot and follow the signs.)

Drinking water is available in the maintenance building behind the Gym from 7 am – 3 pm.

Woodstock Academy is open for showers until 10 pm tonight. (The cafeteria is open for warmth, bathrooms, water, and charging stations. Use the back parking lot.)
