Hartford – On Monday, State Senator Kevin Kelly and State Representative Laura Hoydick received Legislative Achievement Awards from the Connecticut chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

Senator Kelly and Representative Hoydick were presented with plaques at the luncheon ceremony. Sen. Kelly was recognized for “outstanding leadership on home and community based services that help seniors remain independent in their own homes and communities.” Rep. Hoydick was recognized for “strong bipartisan leadership on energy affordability.”

“As an attorney with more than 25 years of experience in elder law, I have always worked to improve the lives of our senior citizens,” said Senator Kevin Kelly (R-21), Ranking Member of the Aging Committee. “In the past session, I focused on increasing affordable housing opportunities and improving home care options. After holding health and wellness fairs in my district and attending elder care conferences, I plan on bringing the ideas that were shared with me to the next legislative session as we continue to work on these issues. I am honored to receive this legislative achievement award from the AARP.”

“Energy Affordability is a critical issue for seniors, particularly in this difficult economy,” said Representative Laura Hoydick (R-120), Ranking Member of the legislature’s Energy & Technology Committee.  “Rate reduction and energy stability are important for a number of reasons, not the least of which is fairness to our seniors.”
