Public Informational Meeting Regarding Route 6
November 15, 2011The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a Public Informational Meeting concerning the proposed widening of U.S. Route 6 from Carol Drive in the City of Bristol to Peggy Lane in the Town of Farmington on Wednesday, November 16 in the Council Chambers at Bristol City Hall, 111 North Main Street, Bristol.
Department personnel will be available at 6:30 p.m. to answer questions prior to a formal design presentation at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of this project is to provide safety improvements and traffic operational improvements to U.S. Route 6. This project was initiated based on a Department’s review of accidents on U.S. Route 6 within the proposed project limits and a request from the City of Bristol to improve congestion at the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and Stafford Avenue.
Overhead and underground utility relocations would be required for the proposed improvements of this project.
Additionally, partial right-of-way acquisitions on both residential and commercial properties would be required.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in fall 2013, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2014, based on the availability of funding. Construction activities are anticipated to last approximately two years. The estimated construction cost for the proposed widening of U.S. Route 6 under this project is approximately $ 9.1 million and it is anticipated to be undertaken with 90% federal and 10% state funds.
The Public Informational Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning the proposed improvements of this project.
Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend this meeting and requiring an interpreter, must make arrangements by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 (voice only) at least five working days prior to the meeting.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.
