Route 72 Bristol – Traffic Advisory

The Department of Transportation is announcing that the last section of relocated Route 72 in Bristol between Pine Street and Riverside Avenue will open on Friday, October 14, 2011. The section of roadway, which includes a new bridge over the Pequabuck River, will provide a direct connection between Route 72 on Pine Street and Route 72 on Riverside Avenue.

This is the last section of Route 72 to be completed as part of the Relocation of Route 72 in Bristol and Plainville. Some punch list and miscellaneous work remains including replacement of a sanitary sewer line and the completion of a storm drainage system on East Main Street in Bristol and Forestville Avenue in Plainville.

DOT Project No. 17-137 consists of a 3.3 kilometer (2.0 miles) relocation of Route 72, connecting the existing Route 72 expressway in Plainville to Route 229 (Middle Street) in Bristol, as well as the reconstruction of 4 kilometers (2.4 miles) of existing secondary and local roadways. As part of this project a new three span bridge (No. 06619) was constructed to convey Route 72 over the Pequabuck River, a box culvert constructed at Yards Pond, four retaining walls and five embankment walls constructed, 19,000 square meters (4.7 acres) of wetlands created, and significant utility relocation work.

Updated Lane Closure Info- Night time closures of East Main and Forestville Avenue to continue until Friday, October 21, 2011.

Eastbound traffic on East Main Street will be detoured south on Lincoln Avenue and then east on Route 72. Westbound traffic on Forestville Avenue will be detoured west on Route 72 and north on Lincoln Avenue.

The closure will be effective Monday through Friday nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The section between the Route 72 Expressway and Lincoln Avenue will remain open for local traffic only.

The project was awarded to Manafort Brothers, Inc. of Plainville, Connecticut on August 10, 2007 and is scheduled for completion in November 2011.
