EAST HAVEN DISASTER LOAN OUTREACH CENTER TO REMAIN OPEN LONGER

October 14, 2011

HARTFORD, CT – Senator Len Fasano is pleased to announce that Governor Dannel P. Malloy has granted his request to keep the East Haven Disaster Loan Outreach Center Open until October 27.

“This center is vital to the residents hit hard by Tropical Storm Irene. Many of the people living along the shoreline are still trying to figure out the process,” said Senator Fasano. “I know because I am dealing with the loss of my own family business.”

The Disaster Loan Outreach Center in East Haven had previously been scheduled to close on October 13. Senator Fasano wrote a letter urging federal and state officials to step in and ask that an extension be granted keeping the center open longer.

“People are still hurting. At least twenty people a day visit the East Haven center and some are applying for the first time since the storm hit more than one month ago,” added Senator Fasano. “These residents should not be abandoned by the government and I am pleased the doors of the center will remain open longer.”

Federal representatives will remain on hand to assist in the disaster outreach process. The office is located at the East Haven Town Beach at 160 Cosey Beach Road.

To be considered for all forms of disaster assistance, disaster survivors should first register with FEMA online anytime at www.disasterassistance.gov, or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 for TTY. These toll-free telephone numbers will operate 7 a.m. through 10 p.m. daily.
